Cheers to 250, America!

This Fourth of July feels extra special because America is celebrating a milestone birthday: 250 years.

When I think about the Fourth of July, I think of freedom, family, and tradition. For me, so many of those memories happened at Hide-a-Way. It was fun at the lake, laughter with family, boat rides, and all the little traditions that made the day feel red, white, and blue.

I remember decorating Grammy's yard with flags galore, slipping into cute red, white, and blue outfits, listening to patriotic music, waving sparklers, and spitting watermelon seeds like it was some serious competition. Those are the kinds of memories that make the Fourth of July feel like home.

And then there was the fish fry. Let me tell you, Uncle Bob's catfish is the best ever. Crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, with a little salt and lemon - perfection. It is one of those traditions that just feels like the Fourth of July to me.

When I was young, we'd head to the dam with blankets and lawn chairs in tow, anxiously waiting for the fireworks to begin while getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. But the second those fireworks lit up the sky, I was completely mesmerized.

These days, we take the boat out to the middle of the lake, where there are no crowds to fight and far fewer mosquitoes. We sip cold drinks, blast patriotic music, and have the best time watching the fireworks from the water.

As much as I love the food, the memories, and the fireworks, the Fourth of July is more than that. It's about celebrating freedom and remembering the men and women who have given their lives to protect it. It's a privilege to live in the greatest nation, where freedom rings. I'm proud to be an American.

So cheers to 250, America - to freedom, family, fireworks, and all the red, white, and blue memories still to come. Happy birthday, America. God bless the USA!
